notes
The kakoi is the defensive structure of the Shogi. They are composed of: Osho/Gyokusho, Kinsho, Ginsho, Keima, Kyosha. They obviously include the Fuhyo. They rarely include Kakugyo and Hisha.
The player chooses the kakoi on the basis of his own opening or on the basis of the opponent’s threat.
Kakoi can be assessed based on:
frontal resistance.
lateral resistance.
execution speed.
There is no such thing as a perfect kakoi. The choice depends on delicate strategic and tactical balances.
There are numerous kakoi, and even more variants. A dedicated page for each kakoi will be gradually added to shogi.cloud.

I suggest watching this video by the talented LilyLionmane, a young 3-dan American player.
The video (in English, of course) is aimed at beginners, reminding them not to confuse castling with openings and not to get stuck building defensive structures that waste moves and pieces,
hindering the development of the game.
A quick and interesting video.
