Shogi Day

Shogi Day was established on November 17th by the 日本将棋連盟 (Japan Shogi Association).

The first Shogi Day was designated on November 17, 1975.

This date commemorates the day set in 1716 by Shogun Tokugawa Yoshimune (徳川吉宗) for the Castle Games.

The traditional competition took place in Edo on the seventeenth day of the month Kannazuki (神無月), the tenth month of the lunar calendar, among families upholding the Shogi tradition.

Before the adoption of the Gregorian Calendar, Kannazuki (神無月) overlapped with the month of November.

In Italy, the Italian Shogi Association, the primary reference for Shogi in Italy, organizes the final of the “Un Autunno da Leoni” tournament.

The final is played in the best of three matches. It is worth noting that the first match is considered the one played during the single qualifying round. For this reason, the match between Francesco_Frank and Bazzullo starts with an initial score of 1 – 0.
