In Shogi, the rules for capturing opponent’s koma are simple. Koma capture by moving to the square occupied by the opponent’s koma. The capturing movement follows the same rules as regular movement.

The captured koma is placed on the komadai, displaying its base value. Promoted koma also return to their base value.

All koma can capture. Osho and Gyokusho cannot capture koma protected by other koma. Osho and Gyokusho cannot end their turn in check.
